Customers sometimes enter an incorrect phone number when signing up, which prevents them from receiving the login verification code. Dealer staff cannot edit a consumer’s phone number because TDC accounts are created and owned by the consumer. Dealership staff do not have access to edit customer accounts or account data for security and compliance reasons. However, you can assist customers in updating their phone numbers by guiding them through the process below.
Steps to Help Customers Update Their Phone Number
- Direct the customer to the dealership kiosk.
- Have them select "Existing User."
- Ask the customer to enter their email address to log in.
- Instruct them to click on "Click Here to Receive Email Instead."
- This will send a verification code to their email instead of their phone.

- The customer should check their email and enter the verification code on the kiosk.
- Once logged in, have them navigate to "Settings" in the top-right corner of the Buyer Portal.
- Inside Settings, they can edit their phone number and save the changes.

Key Points for Dealership Staff
- Only the customer can update their phone number in their TDC account.
- Once updated, future login verification codes will be sent to the new phone number.
- If the customer cannot access their email, they may need to work with dealership staff to explore alternative solutions, such as using a different email they have access to.
By following these steps, you can help customers regain access to their accounts while ensuring compliance with TDC’s security policies.
