You can create a technically unique email address that still redirects to the original email by adding a "+" sign followed by a value. This method is supported by most email providers, including Gmail and custom domains like @mytdc.net.
How It Works
If the original email is christy@mytdc.net, you can modify it as follows:
christy+1@mytdc.netchristy+sales@mytdc.netchristy+manager@mytdc.net
All these variations are treated as unique email addresses by TDC and other systems but will redirect emails to the original email address, sofya@mytdc.net.
Why This Happens
This functionality is based on the email protocol's handling of address tags:
- The "+" sign and any value after it are considered tags.
- Email systems ignore the tag after the "+" sign when routing the email to the mailbox.
- This allows you to create variations of your email address without needing to set up a new inbox.
Use Cases in TDC
Use Case #1: Errors in consumer phone #.
Sometimes consumers make errors in entering their phone number while registering on TDC. The system will not allow them to re-register with the same email and a corrected phone number (because it varies from the original). To work around this:
- Modify the original email address by adding a "+" sign and a tag:
john.doe+1@example.comjohn.doe+new@example.com
- Register the new account with the altered email and the correct phone number.
All TDC communications sent to john.doe+1@example.com or john.doe+new@example.com will still be delivered to the consumer's original email inbox, john.doe@example.com.
Example Scenario
- Original Registration: Consumer registers with
jane.doe@gmail.comand enters an incorrect phone number. - Account Creation Blocked: TDC system prevents using
jane.doe@gmail.comagain for a new account with the correct phone number. - Solution: Consumer uses
jane.doe+1@gmail.comto create the new account with the updated phone number. - Outcome: All emails (from both accounts) are delivered to the same inbox,
jane.doe@gmail.com.
Use Case #2. Creating second user on TDC Dashboard
In some situations, a single user may need to perform multiple roles within TDC, such as working as both a Salesperson and a Sales Manager. This requires the user to be assigned to transactions under both roles. However, the TDC system does not allow creating multiple accounts with the same email address.
Example Scenario
-
Create Two User Accounts:
- First account: Assign the Sales Manager role to
jane.doe@mytdc.net. - Second account: Assign the Sales Person role to
jane.doe+sales@mytdc.net.
- First account: Assign the Sales Manager role to
-
Role Assignment in Transactions:
- Have the user log into only one account (with the higher access permissions - in this case into Sales Manager`s account,
jane.doe@mytdc.net) - No need to log into another account (with lower access permissions)
- Have the user log into only one account (with the higher access permissions - in this case into Sales Manager`s account,
-
Email Management:
- The user will be login in as sales manager, and will be able to assign themselves as a sales-person to that transaction as well.
- Both email addresses will redirect all communications to the same inbox (
jane.doe@mytdc.net), allowing the user to manage their roles seamlessly without missing important messages.
